EMS Drug Shortage Update, November, 2025

This remains a short backorder report, with shortages at the level we have not seen since the beginning of this issue in 2011   The drugs in shortage now all have an alternative product, and many of the shortage medications are slated to be in production in the next 6 weeks.
Our EMS drug distributors may still have occasional issues with single products.
There are issues related to tariffs and our US relationships with India and China.

The latest backorder report has stabilized.  We are “down to” a place where only 32 preparations of emergency drugs are not available. Key shortages:
     •              Amiodarone – Limited inventory continues to be available in the supply chain, a clear date is currently unknown

    •              Etomidate – 20mg, 10ml vials remain challenged. 40mg, 20ml product is readily available
    •              Cyanokit- Limited inventory continues to be available in the supply chain.  Still in shortage.  Do not move your expired kits out of service.      A “Dear Healthcare Provider” letter is involved. A copy of the letter can be found using the hyperlink within the backorder report.
There is a contamination potential that has been identified.  A recommendation has been made to administer the product using an Extension set (filtered) that meets specifications is BTM #356671
The shortage situation is as good as it has been since August 2021.  That only lasted for about 4 months, but at least it was a short reprieve.
